Compression Molded Rubber

Compression molding is the simplest process for molding a rubber component, often offering the lowest tooling investment and shortest lead times, but typically with a higher part cost and poorer part precision. For this process a pre-load of uncured rubber material is placed directly into each mold cavity and then compressed into cavity’s shape by the closure of the mold. Robinson Rubber Products can custom formulate rubber to meet your specifications, design and build the compression mold, and supply you with your custom compression molded rubber components in volumes from prototype through production. Call 1 (763) 535-6737 to speak to one of our qualified experts, or fill out our Molded Rubber Component Design Specification Checklist.

Compression Process

1. A piece of uncured rubber material is placed in each mold cavity.

2. The mold is closed up and held under massive hydraulic pressure while the rubber material cures.

3. Once the rubber is cured, the mold is opened and the part is removed. The excess rubber, called flash, is trimmed from the part.
